At the start of this week, I felt like I was coming apart at the seams. My thoughts were often racing and disorganized. My energy was low and my mood was pretty dark. Troubling news coupled with chronic pain created a perfect storm of negativity that was really impacting my spirit. Here enters meditation.
I have been circling around the topic of meditation for some time. While I've heard the celebrity endorsements, testimonials and studies espousing the many benefits of this practice, I made excuses for why I wasn't trying it.
Too hard.
No time.
Maybe later.
Maybe later.
Well, later arrived sooner than I thought. This month I celebrated turning 30, a milestone that due to severe anxiety, I was sure I would never see. In the past, I used my inevitable demise as an excuse for not making serious attempts at self-improvement. Now that I've reached this grand age, it's time to get down to business. I am committed to creating good habits and lasting changes in my life this year, that will reverberate for years to come.
The first good habit I would like to cultivate is meditation. It costs no money, requires no equipment, and can be done at any time, any where. I started meditating for 15-20 minutes at the start of this week, and while the chronic pain remains, my thoughts feel much more clear and my mood has certainly improved.
Because of this, I am going to start on this path with a 1 week meditation challenge. I'm hoping this weekly challenge format will encourage me to adopt other good habits, leading to a year of positive changes.

Stay positive, my friends.
